Tonight, we celebrate a very special milestone — Andy Coetzee’s 50th game as Head Coach of Villager FC.
Andy spent a couple of seasons as our defense coach before stepping up and taking full responsibility of the First Team.
And when he took over, there was uncertainty around the club.
We knew that if we wanted to get Villager back to where it belonged, we first had to fix the culture.
The answer was simple: old-school Villager culture.
A brotherhood.
A group of players prepared to do the hard work during the week, fight for each other on a Saturday, and then stick together off the field as well.
Year One — Survival
The goal in Andy’s first season was survival.
But very quickly, this group showed that it was capable of much more.
We qualified for the Top 6 and eventually travelled to a freezing Danie Craven Stadium, where an unfortunate quarter-final loss to Maties brought the season to an end.
15 games. 9 wins. A 60% win rate.
But the most important goal had been achieved.
The culture had changed.
Villager had once again become an environment where players wanted to be. Where players wanted to work, improve, thrive and succeed.
### Year Two — Become Champions
The goal for season two was no longer survival.
There was only one goal:
Win the league.
We recruited well. The culture grew stronger. The brotherhood became tighter.
And the results followed.
We won the Derby for the first time in many years.
We went through the entire league season losing just one game — in the dying seconds against a fiery Durbanville-Bellville side.
And then we did what we had set out to do.
Villager FC became Super League A Champions.
That championship also earned us qualification for the Gold Cup.
But once again, this group wasn’t satisfied with simply achieving the goal.
We went all the way to the *Gold Cup Final*, eventually falling short against a highly experienced Naka Bulls side.
The season ended with an incredible record:
21 competitive games.
19 wins.
A 90% win rate.
### Year Three — Back-to-Back
And now here we are.
Andy’s third year as Head Coach.
Villager FC’s 150th year.
And somehow, this group has found another level.
We have lost just once all season — one of those tough days where things simply didn’t click.
But we responded.
We qualified for the Gold Cup again.
We became Super League A Champions again.
And for the *first time in 91 years, Villager FC has successfully defended its league title.*
Our Super League A season finishes:
15 games.
14 wins.
A 93% win rate.
Across Andy’s three seasons as Head Coach, his teams have won 42 of 51 competitive matches — a win rate of more than 82%.
But Andy, the numbers only tell part of the story.
Your greatest achievement isn’t a percentage.
It isn’t a trophy.
It isn’t even back-to-back championships.
It’s where Villager FC stands today compared to where it stood when you took over.
You helped rebuild a culture.
You created an environment where players want to play for Villager.
You brought back the brotherhood.
You made pulling on that jersey mean something again.
And you helped turn a team whose first objective was simply to survive into a team that now expects to compete for championships.
From survival.
To champions.
To back-to-back champions.
Tonight, on your 50th game as Head Coach, we recognise not only what you’ve achieved, but what you’ve helped rebuild.
Andy, thank you for your leadership, your loyalty, your sacrifice and your service to Villager FC.
The job isn’t finished yet.
There’s still one more challenge ahead.
The Gold Cup.
